A 15-YEAR-OLD boy has been arrested after smashing a teenage girl in the face with a glass bottle last weekend.
The local youth - who cannot be named for legal reasons - was arrested and bailed, pending further police inquiries, following the incident which occurred at the Fylde's historic 'Lytham Club Day' at around 8.30pm on Saturday.
It is believed the girl was attacked when a gang of up to 20 teenagers began a mass brawl close to the funfair on Lytham Green after spending a number of hours drinking alcohol.
The girl was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital where she was treated for "non-life threatening" injuries including a cut to her forehead and right index finger.
Police are now investigating where those involved - the majority of which are believed to be under the legal drinking age limit - managed to get their alcohol from.
A Blackpool police spokesman said: "Lytham Club Day is usually a peaceful, community event with very relatively few incidences of anti-social behaviour or violence over the years.
"Sunshine, frivolity and alcohol don't mix - whatever your age.
"But if you have a group of youngsters who have had a very exciting, sunshine and fun-filled day and then throw in a lot of alcohol they are not used to then there will be trouble.
"You could say it's a cocktail for disaster.
"Our main concern now is how these youngsters came to have access to booze in the first place.
"We will be speaking to the young people involved and their parents to see if the drink was sneaked from home.
"But we will also be conducting inquiries with retailers to see if it could have been bought locally."
Lytham's 'Club Day' celebrations have been part of the Fylde's social calendar since 1894.
The annual event consists of a carnival procession, Rose Queen crowning and funfair with visitors travelling from all over the North West and further afield to take part.
