A DRINK-drive shamed dinner lady has admitted committing another offence while driving at an unprecedented six times over the legal limit.

Catherine Bickerdike, 29, of Mill Lane, Warton, pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving during a second hearing at Blackpool Magistrates Court yesterday.

It follows a similar guilty plea to a charge of drink driving at an earlier hearing held in the resort.

The single mother - who has a six-year-old son - was arrested after attempting to drive her purple Volvo 440 car through Lytham after being sent home from work from Heyhouses Junior School in St Annes at around 11.50am on June 21.

A police breath test showed 182 micrograms of alcohol in her body - 35 is the legal limit. This is three micrograms above the highest ever recorded result for a female of 179.

Witnesses reported seeing Bickerdike mounting kerbs, almost colliding with oncoming vehicles and swerving across roads.

Defending, Peter Cave said his client was of previous impeccable character and had never had any driving convictions.

He also claimed that his client had had trouble sleeping because of depression - for which she had been receiving treatment from her GP - and, on the night of the offence, had drunk vodka until going to bed at 3am.

Magistrates have issued an interim driving ban while they consider what further punishment to issue at a another date.

Bickerdike has also been suspended from work pending a "full investigation" by Lancashire County Council education chiefs.

Presiding magistrate, Brian Rigby, told Bickerdike: "Because this was a prolonged course of dangerous driving and you were six times over the limit we feel there was a significant risk of harm to the public."
