BURY Thai Boxer Scott Quigg has won his sixth title.

Sixteen-year-old Scott, of Phoenix Street, Bury, who fights out of the GFC Muay Thai Boxing Club, already holds two northern area tiles, English and British junior rules titles (no head contact), and an area title under senior rules, and fought for the under 17 British 54 kg title at an international event held in Leeds on Sunday.

He was on the under card of an event that featured three fighters ranked number one in the country at their respective weights, and also two European senior title fights.

Scotts opponent, Patrick McDonough, from Leeds, was the taller, heavier and more experienced under senior rules, and had just returned from Thailand where he fought in the amateur world finals picking up a Bronze medal.

Not one to be fazed by reputations, Scott took the fight to McDonough, but he showed his experience and seized his chance, catching Scott with a cracking high kick which put him down for an eight-count, levelling the score.

However, it just spurred Scott on and he came through the last two rounds the stronger to take a split points decision.

His performance won him rave reviews, overshadowing some of the most experienced fighters in the country, with many experts commenting that his was the performance of the night.

Scotts instructor, Darren Phillips , said: "He beat a tough opponent and in doing so increased his reputation no end.

"For people to say his was one of the best performances of the night is amazing when you consider that some of the best and most experienced fighters in the country were on this bill.

"At the moment we are looking for sponsorship for him so he can, hopefully, realise his potential."
