THE mighty Wednesfield Aces made their trip from Wolverhampton well worthwhile with a double victory over Bury Pedalsport at Goshen.

Both second and first team matches were very close with the Bury riders battling for every point in every race.

Ashley Simpson and veteran John Whiting topped the scores for the comets in the second team winning two races each. Ashley scored 13+1 and John 12, Mikey Hewittson scored a win, and a second in his two rides for seven points.

However, the home sides second strings were a little lacking in fire power.

Chris Parish scored five from two rides, whilst Alex Collins 5+1, Leo Brindley 4+1, Chris Dyson 4+1, and Dave Callaghan four, completed the scoring for 54pts to the Aces 65.

The senior match was a

mammoth battle with Bury just one point down for most of the 18 heats. Bury went ahead in heat three with a 6-3 and were unlucky to lose the lead in heat five when young Mikey Hewittson raced clear of his opponents and a 5-5 shared heat looked certain. His nearest opponent made a great effort to catch him and on the last bend made his challenge bringing Mikey down, and a drawn heat became a 7-3 defeat.

Paul Dyson and Ben Scranage rode brilliantly throughout and ensured that no visitor remained unbeaten.

Ben lost to British champion Lee Aris and Polish rider Andrei Bromboch, but beat them both in other races. Paul dropped his only point to Aris, winning his other four rides.

The whole team tried desperately hard to earn victory but just lost out in the closing heats, 83-96.

Paul Dyson, Ben Scranage 17, Chris Parish 12+1, Fred Rothwell 12, Scott Jarman 8+1, Mikey Hewittson 6, Ashley Simpson 5+1, Chris Dyson four.

The Dyson family make the long trek to Exeter on Saturday, for young Chris to ride in the British under 13 individual championship, and all at Bury wish him the best of luck.

On Sunday, Bury take part in a triple-header at Hull.

A northern league six-a-side, 15 heat match at 1pm, will be followed by the regular second team 2pm and first team, 3pm Midland/North regional

fixtures.
