CULCHETH WI did a double take when speaker the Rev Susan Whitehead burst into a Gracie Fields' song.
Susan spoke about the Rochdale stars colourful life and played recordings of her varied songs before giving her own class performance.
The group is still in the running for the final 16 of the Yorkshire Tea Trees for Life Community Bursaries and the announcement was followed by a discussion regarding the use of WI funds following a direction from the national federation.
A tutor from Warrington College will instruct the craft group members on the art of silk painting on August 23 and there are still places available for the trip to Shropshire on July 19.
Bouquets were presented to Joan Houghton for her 80th birthday and to Peggy Smith for her diamond wedding.
Raffle winners were Cynthia Wood, Martha Head, Jean Grimoldby and Phyllis Longson.
