A POLICE office has opened at Burnley Campus to improve the service being offered to residents of Daneshouse and Stoneyholme.
The new office in Barden Lane will be manned by the local neighbourhood policing team throughout the day and will work with students and the local community.
PC Ivan Brown, community beat manager for Daneshouse and Stoneyholme, said the office was a more informal setting.
“Due to the population being predominantly Asian we are struggling to get members of the community to come to the station,” he said.
“This is an ideal base for people to come and speak to us more informally and be more comfortable with it.
“Coming to the main police station for a formal interview can put people off, so hopefully people will prefer coming to somewhere well known in the community.
“People can come to the office anytime. Even if we aren’t in they can just a leave note for us to call them back or leave a note with any information they have.”
There will be two PCSOs and PC Brown based at the office, which will open the same hours as the campus, until around 10pm.
PC Brown said having a base on campus also allowed officers to work more closely with students at Thomas Whitham Sixth Form.
He said: “We already work with the campus and the college quite closely, such as holding talks about road safety.
“But this allows us to be on site should any incident occur and we can respond to any problems on the campus very quickly.
“When the idea was mentioned staff at the campus were very keen for us to set up here.”
