A Darwen-based breastfeeding company with more than 100 female staff has appointed its first male worker.
Sean Hughes, 48, has been taken on as a branch manager for Little Angels Breastfeeding Support, whose headquarters are in Railway Road.
Married with a nine-year-old daughter, Sean was the only male to apply for the position.
He said: “I saw the advert for the job and my wife told me I was wasting my time. She said mums would not be comfortable with a male assisting with breastfeeding issues.”
He added: “I have been well received so far, I’m in charge of the day-to-day management of the office and responsible for 21 staff.
“I’m not actually going out to help women, that wouldn’t be appropriate, but I am an advocate of breastfeeding.
Sean is managing the Essex branch of the company.
