AT the weekend people in Darwen got their first glimpse inside the town’s new £12.7million leisure centre, which replaces the 1933 building on the same site, which was pulled down more than two years ago.
Marion Holden, 63, of New Meadow Close, said: “I think it is great.
"The whole place is really big, especially the pool which I really like the look of.”
Jacqui Duguid, 42, of Sudell, said: “It is really good. I can’t wait to get in there.
"The swimming pool and the gym are the best bits. They are wonderful.”
Michelle Emmett, 39, of Ratcliffe Street, said: “I loved the swimming pool.
"I used to use it before it was closed down and I’ve really been looking forward to this place opening up.
"The equipment is out of this world. You can even plug your iPod into the treadmills.”
Dennis Cragg, 74, of Hoddlesden, said: “I used to work here and was keen to see how it would be rebuilt. Just looking at the pool, you can see how good it is.”
Kevin Gornall, 34, of Lily Street, said: “I am well impressed.
"It is awesome. For everyone in Darwen, this is so fantastic. Personally the gym is my favourite bit.
"They have got all of the up-to-date equipment in there.”
Paul Sharrock, 38, of Oswaldtwistle, said: “I think the whole place is excellent, especially the pool and the gym. It’s great for all ages and I know the kids will really like it.”
