A PAIR of teenage yobs have been given two-year ASBOs for causing misery in an area of Blackburn.
Robert Wignall, 16, and Grant Turner, 17, both of Foxstones Crescent, were given the orders by Blackburn magistrates after police gathered evidence of their unruly behaviour in the Green Lane area.
In the past year, there had been more than 60 complaints from residents, including drink and drug misuse, damage, possession of weapons, and late-night foot-ball games against metal shutters.
Community beat manager Lyndsey Armstrong said: “Over the past 12 months, both Wignall and Turner have terrorised the resid-ents of the Green Lane estate and, in particular, those living in Railton Avenue and Hurstwood Avenue.
Together they have caused the residents of Green Lane estate untold problems for far too long. I hope this order will help to restore the quality of life for members of the community.
“This order should demon-strate that police will deal robustly with anyone found causing anti-social behav-iour, while sending out a strong message that persis-tent anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.”
Wignall and Turner will have to go their separate ways as they are banned from associating with each other, or four other named individuals, under the terms of the order.
The ASBOs prevent them from inciting others, or being involved in anti-social behaviour, and they cannot enter a specified area of Blackburn, Hurstwood Aven-ue, Railton Avenue, Meadow-head Close, Greenside Aven- ue and Fielding Crescent.
Sergeant Paul Schofield said: “Lyndsey and her team have been tenacious in bringing Turner and Wign-all’s behaviour to account through the courts.
“The South West Neigh-bourhood Policing Team will rigorously pursue anybody intent on causing anti-social behaviour. Any breaches of an ASBO can result in a custodial sentence.”
He added: “We would like to thank Twin Valley Homes for their assistance in bringing the matter before the court.”
Kevin Ruth, executive director of Twin Valley Homes, said: “We’ve worked closely with the police in this matter and we hope the people who live on the Green Lane estate will enjoy some peace in their homes.”
