A SHOPKEEPER has relived the moment he tackled a knife-wielding Blackburn drunk who was holding the blade to his wife’s throat.
Dai Nguyen said he was 'following his instincts' when he wrestled Graham Morris, 33, of Blackburn, to the ground as he brandished a 12-inch kitchen knife.
Hanh Nguyen, 26, has been left terrified by the attempted robbery at Worldwide Wines, Parsonage Street, Bury.
Speaking after Morris was jailed for more than four years, Mr Nguyen, 33, said: “We see all walks of life in the shop but I have never seen anything like that before.
“My wife was very scared and frightened and has been having nightmares ever since.”
Mrs Nguyen was behind the counter when Morris burst in demanded cash from the tills at about 6.15pm on September 10 last year.
Mr Nguyen said he heard a scream and when he checked the CCTV, saw his wife being held at knifepoint.
“My first instinct was to protect my wife,” he said. “So I grabbed him from behind and told him to calm down.
“I would do the same again, but I wouldn’t recommend it. At that point anything can happen.”
Morris dropped the weapon, and another six-inch knife, when a customer came in and locked the door.
He admitted what he had done when officers arrived at the scene and arrested him.
Morris was sentenced to four years and four months imprisonment at Bolton Crown Court .
He pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and possessing a bladed article in a public place at an earlier hearing.
