A DARWEN grandad is set to launch his first business at the ripe old age of 61.
Whilst many people in their 60s are looking forward to retirement, Len Whittaker is becoming a self-employed businessman, having just set-up LW Domestics.
The father-of-two, of Thompson Street, has clocked up more than 40 years of experience in fixing household appliances and now he is hoping he has what it takes to make his first solo venture a success.
He said: “Fixing appliances is what I have done since I left school and after being made redundant in September I decided that I wanted to give running my own business a go.
“I have worked for companies right across Lancashire and spent more than 20 years at Tricity Bendix and Electrolux. During my time I have worked with most of the different brands and types of appliances and now I’m hoping to use my experience to provide a really good service.”
Len has been returning to some customers for more than 30 years and hopes to build on his reputation.
