A PAIR of educated Emilys who followed similar paths throughout their studies have earned offers from Oxford University.
Seventeen-year-olds Emily Boocock and Emily Cannon have shared histories at Nelson and Colne College and nearby Park High School, where they each scored four A* and seven A grades at GCSE.
But the similarities end there, as Emily Boocock is set to read classics at Corpus Christi College and Emily Cannon plans to read history at Pembroke College.
The sixth-formers, from Winewall and Barnoldswick respectively, benefitted from special preparation courses at college.
College principal Lyn Sturgeon said: “The girls received mentoring and subject-specific support.
“We are thrilled with their success.”
Dr Paul Parkin, head-teacher at Colne’s Park High, added: “When some of the staff heard about this they were so excited and pleased for them.
"They were really good all-rounders in the humanities and sciences.”
Emily Boocock, who went to Trawden primary, is undecided about her future career path, and said: “I will probably still be procrastinating for the next four years.”
She is taking A levels in English, history, maths and law, while Emily Cannon, a former Kelbrook Primary pupil, is hoping for top marks in maths, geography, geology and history.
Emily Cannon said: “The college has prepared me for independent learning, which will benefit me at Oxford.”
The college recently celebrated a 99.9 per cent pass rate at A level and GCSE results at Park High are steadily improving.
