A TENT and other vital supplies have been sent to crisis island Haiti by generous Rotary members from Blackburn.

The Rotary Club of Blackburn West has bought a ShelterBox, containing a tent and essential equipment for up to 10 people to use, which is being flown out to the island’s capital, Port au Prince.

It will join hundreds of the items being sent to the island by Rotary clubs worldwide. The ShelterBox Response Team is also using the boxes to build an emergency field hospital at the airport.

Roger Parker, president of Blackburn West Rotary Club, said: “The Rotary movement exists to help others and, by linking with ShelterBox, we know that the help we can give in response to the terrible situation in Haiti will be delivered speedily and efficiently.”
