AN Emmerdale actress, who returns to the hit soap this week, is looking for new acting talent in East Lancashire.

Melanie Ash, who plays Colleen King the estranged wife of Carl King in the ITV soap, is bringing her drama workshops to Blackburn.

Mel runs Mel@drama Acting School and Agency with her partner Will Travis, a fellow actor, offered a free taster session yesterday in Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Blackburn.

They have decided to expand to the area as they believe East Lancashire is a ‘breeding ground for the stars of the future.’

Melanie has also appeared in the title role in Aladdin for Pendle Productions show in 1999.

She said: ‘We have been established for in over eight years in Leigh, Preston and Horwich.

"We somehow manage to do all the teaching ourselves in between filming and acting commitments.

"It’s a big bonus that the kids are being taught by us.

"We know the industry and are still working as professional actors.”

Her partner Will has starred in Coronation Street, Shameless and can currently be seen as the dad in the 'Act on CO2' campaign.

He said: ‘We love Lancashire, and are both very proud of where we come from.

"We are determined to put these northern towns on the map as a breeding ground for the stars of the future.

"When I was starting out you had to travel miles to get anywhere near the experience we are offering - not any more!’

Melanie added: “Many of our pupils are already working on TV and in film through our agency.

"Already this year one of our lads from Leigh has been over in Leeds filming.

"Several ex-pupils are now working in the industry, performing, directing, teaching and writing.

"Many pupils arrive with little or no confidence and when they’re ready leave with the skills, attitude and belief you need to make the most of what you’ve got – whether that’s acting, or any other career.
