EIGHT out of 10 trains in East Lancashire ran on time during the cold snap, according to bosses.

Figures from the four weeks between December 13 and January 9 show service reliability was only down four per cent from the same period last year despite the snow and ice.

And out of 16 regional rail operators, Northern Rail performed better than nine of them.

Network Rail’s Robin Gisby, said: “It has been a difficult month and we have not delivered the railway passengers have come to expect.”
