BURNLEY College Sixth Form Centre's debating society has made its debut in a national competition.
A-level students Hannah Goff and Gundega Lapsa competed against a team from Runshaw College, near Leyland, in the Debating Matters competition in Wigan.
The Burnley team debated against the motion that pop artists should be judged on their work and not their lifestyles.
Rosie Mellor, Burnley College student development officer, said: "The competition allows young people to engage in an intelligent contest of beliefs and defend their ideas against critical scrutiny.
"Hannah and Gundega, who was taking part in her first debate in English after moving from Latvia, had to introduce their arguments, answer questions and rebuttals from their competitors and the three judges then present a final summary argument."
