AN African music teacher inspired youngsters when he visited a Burnley school.

Students from Blessed Trinity RC College, Burnley, were wowed and inspired by the musical talents of South African teacher David Nkosi at a recent international curriculum day.

Mr Nkosi, who came to the school from the East Rand School of Arts near Johannesburg, held an African Drumming Workshop for the school's musicians.

They then put on a lunchtime concert for fellow students.

Head of Creative Arts, Mrs Beth Watson, who secured help from Mr Nkosi, said: "I was looking to explore how music is presented to children across the world, and raise our pupil's awareness of cultural differences.

"The day was an enormous success and the pupil's were absolutely thrilled with David's work. I really hope our partnership with East Rand School of Arts can go from strength to strength."

Mrs Watson is planning to take a group of Blessed Trinity students out to South Africa and is currently seeking funding for the enterprise from the British Council Global Gateway.
