MORE than 800 youngsters in some of Burnley's most challenging areas have been helped by an anti-social behaviour initiative.
For the past two-and-a-half years the Dambusters scheme, run by the borough council's play and sports development team, has toured Burnley and Padiham, offering sports taster sessions.
Funding totalling nearly £67,000 was initially provided for the project, mainly through the borough's multi-agency problem solving team and the Positive Activities for Young People (PAYP) national scheme.
Enough cash is currently available to support Dambusters until this Christmas and a further bid is being made to PAYP to carry on the work to the end of next March.
Most visits so far have been made to Burnley Wood, Park Road in Padiham, and Mitella Street, Ightenhill, Rakeshead and Kibble Bank in Burnley.
Sports including football, cricket, basketball, rounders, netball and dodgeball are offered to young people.
