BOSSES of Burnley FC said that they are ‘delighted’ that 400 fans turned down the offer of a free season ticket to invest funds into the club.

More than £80,000 was pumped back into the club coffers by supporters who have now become shareholders.

Supporters who bought a season ticket in advance of the 2008/09 season were offered a full refund under the chairman’s Premier League pledge which came into action when the Clarets won promotion last year.

Though 7,000 of the Burnley faithful took full advantage of a free season ticket, the chairman has hailed those fans opting to re-invest in Turf Moor.

Chairman Barry Kilby said: “I am absolutely delighted at the success of the shares option and it just goes to show that we have so many fans willing to throw their weight behind the club.

“We were happy to offer fans’ a full refund under the pledge, which was activated on promotion at Wembley last May.

“And the fact that 400 supporters have offered to transfer £200 of their hard earned cash into a club share is a huge boost for the club.

“I would just like to thank each and every one of them for their generosity.”
