THE number of Lancashire police officers earning £50,000 or more has increased by more than a third.
Lancashire Police Authority members asked the audit and standards committee for details on employees’ wages after noting the increase in a recently published statement of accounts.
A spokesman for the authority said: “The increase in the number of officers earning between £50,000 and £59,999 between 2007/08 and 2008/09 was 87 which equates to an increase of 36 per cent.
“This increase reflects the fact that whilst the £50,000 threshold has not changed since this disclosure requirement was introduced a number of years ago, the steady increase in police officer and support staff pay forces more people to move into this band."
