A BLACKBURN man found himself out of pocket after striking a pothole in the middle of the road.

Anis Amanjy, 33, of Preston New Road said the deep hole caused a grate to hit his car’s fuel pump and the back end of the chassis.

The accident cost him £50 in repairs to the Peugeot 406 and lost him a night’s work which would have netted him £90.

The hole in Kings Bridge Wharf, Blackburn was filled in within a day of Mr Amanjy contacting the Lancashire Telegraph.

Mr Amanjy, who works for an events security company, had been making his way to work at 4.30pm on Monday when the accident happened.

He said: “I went right into the pothole and this grate on the edge of it just crunched the underneath of the car.

"I had to drive it back home very slowly as I wouldn’t have been able to get very far with it.

“I had been on my way to an event in Wales with my manager and a colleague and this meant that they lost money as well as me.

“Considering I have had to pay out taxi bills while my car has been out of action I think the council should at least reimburse me for the damage caused to my car.”

A spokeswoman for Blackburn with Darwen Council said: “Mr Amanjy is entitled to follow normal procedures and put in a claim against the council.”
