LANCASHIRE’s police force will not be ‘complacent’ during 2010 after a successful 12 months ‘leading the field’.
Chief Constable Steve Finnigan’s annual report praises the constabulary for continuing its drive to become ‘truly citizen focused’.
The report is due to be presented to the Lancashire Police Authority tomorrow.
Mr Finnigan said: “I am pleased that overall crime fell by 4.9% in 2008/09 which equates to more than 6,100 fewer crimes being committed.
“This is the fourth year in succession that crime has fallen and from 2004/05 to 2008/09, the overall reduction is 34,828 fewer victims of crime – the equivalent of the population of Accrington.”
Mr Finnigan identified the Home Office-led initiatives of the Policing Pledge and the single confidence target as ‘new challenges’.
Lancashire’s current confidence figure of 51% puts it in the top five forces nationally, but it must reach 55% next year, 59% by 2011 and 63% by March 2012.
