A CHARITY single promoting a safer Lancashire is set to take over the county’s airwaves.

The track The Best That I Can Be had its first play on local radio stations this week, ahead of its official release in January.

It's in support of the Make Lancashire Safer campaign, the brainchild of Blackburn DJ Kirk Bullen.

Recording was done, Band Aid-style, in Darwen Library Theatre last month and is all set to take the UK charts by storm with the backing of local listeners.

It was written by Darwen DJ Martin Cooper, of The Bee radio station, and produced by Daniel Reid.

It includes contributions from a number of Lancashire artists.

Martin said: “I wanted to create something that would stand up against other songs being played on the radio.

"I wanted people to hear it and enjoy it, then want to discover more about it.

"I decided to write a track about self improvement and what we as individuals can achieve if we strive to be the best we can be.”

Kirk added: “For the single to make the UK Top 40 we need to sell somewhere in the region of 3,000 copies, but the more sales we get the better.”

The project is being backed by Shameless actors Rebecca Atkinson, who plays Karen McGuire, and Ben Batt, who plays Joe Pritchard.

The single will be available to download in the new year via the website below.
