THE newly-restored tram shelter in Hoddlesden was reopened on Saturday by the last remaining members of the Carus family in the village.
Dorothy Duckworth and Diana Beaton unveiled the £9,600 improvents to the historic building which was donated by their family in 1923.
Used as a bus stop and shelter, it had fallen into disrepair in recent years, until the East Rural Network – a group of local residents and business owners – began fundraising to bring it back to its original standard.
It has now been sandblasted and fitted with new iron work, drains have been mended, a new weather vane placed on the top and a plaque fixed inside.
Money for the project has come from the Darwen Centenary Historical Society, Blackburn with Darwen Grassroots Fund, Steve Hartley, the Lloyds Trust and Blackburn with Darwen Council.
