WHALLEY'S annual Pickwick Victorian Christmas street fair will be held this evening.

The event, which will include an evening of entertainment, will be officially started at 6pm.

Shops will stay open until 9pm, with staff dressed in Victorian-style dress as they sell yuletide gifts.

The aim of the event is to raise thousands of pounds for local charities.

King Street in Whalley will be closed to traffic between Station Road and Accrington Road from 5.30pm to 9pm.

Traffic approaching Whalley from the by-pass will be diverted into the village via Wiswell Lane.

Only accident and emergency vehicles will have access to the centre of the village during these hours.

Bus routes through the centre of the village will also be affected.

Parking will be available at the Sidings Car Park in Station Road, where a park-and-ride scheme will be in operation.

A park-and-ride scheme will also operate from the Bull's Head Inn, Wilpshire.
