SOME of the 700 temporary jobs bosses hope to create across East Lancashire will become permanent, councillors have been told.

Concerns were raised at a meeting of East Lancashire’s leaders about the government’s Future Jobs Fund initiative by Tory Ribble Valley leader Michael Ranson.

He said: “Obviously it’s wonderful to have this money available to provide jobs, but the concern for many of us is the sustainability. What happens in 12 months’ time?”

But the committee was told that a number of employers said they were interested in extending the scheme at their own cost.

And Pendle Council leader John David said it was “churlish” to criticise the project.
