A TEAM of enterprising students at Burnley College Sixth Form centre have created a business to raise awareness of recycling.

The 11 A Level students started the firm, called Envirofunk, as part of Lancaster University’s volunteering unit’s voltage project. The company is trying to raise awareness of the UK’s disposable culture of throwing things away and buying new, instead of recycling.

The students will be buying jewellery from charity shops and receiving donations of used jewellery from staff and students to recycle and customise. They will also be selling Christmas candy canes.

Rosie Mellor, student development officer, said: “Money raised will help to buy organic fruit and vegetable bulbs for Burnley College’s new horticulture area and will be donated to Offshoots Permaculture Project at Towneley Park.”
