RESIDENTS have failed in their bid for 15mph speed limit signs on a cobbled street.
People living around Station Road, Chapeltown, petitioned Blackburn with Darwen Council for traffic-calming measures.
They said a new nearby housing development had led to a sharp increase in the number of cars using the road.
The petition, signed by 42 people, called for speed limit signs at the entrance to Station Road. But council engineers have rejected the bid, claiming 15mph signs would not be legally enforceable and so would be treated as an obstruction on the highway.
Their report said drivers were unlikely to speed on the road because of its cobbled surface.
The council’s planning committee will have the final say when it meets next Thursday night.
