BLUEPRINTS are expected to be passed to upgrade conference facilities at Burnley Mechanics this summer.

More meetings are being held at the Manchester Road venue’s Tudor Room after lift and toilet upgrades were installed three years ago.

Council bosses expect to make £10,000 per year on hiring out the space, which can seat up to 100 delegates, for internal and external events.

Kirk Worley, the council’s venue head, said in an executive report: “The Tudor Room has not been redecorated since the theatre opened over 22 years ago and is looking worn out, jaded and is generally not up to the standard that commercial hirers would expect.”

Refurbishment estimates for the room itself total £22,850 and include repainting, new carpets, electrical work and a projector.

Another £12,000 plus will be spent on upgrading the male and female toilets, including non-slip flooring, according to plans set to be approved by Burnley council’s executive.
