A TEENAGE girl had to be ‘Tasered’ as police brought an end to a tense 90-minute stand-off in the centre of Colne.

Police were alerted to the Albert Road area just after 7.30pm on Friday after a woman complained that the youngster had tried to throw bleach over her.

But before officers arrived, the 19-year-old alleged attacker had retreated to a property and then refused to leave an attic area.

Police say the girl was threatening to harm herself with a kitchen knife and the Pennine force’s operational services unit was drafted in.

The area behind the property, between Duke Street and Earl Street, was sealed off by Lancashire Constabulary as a safety measure.

Officers wearing riot shields were also placed on stand-by in Albert Road itself as communication was made with the women through an open window.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “Around 8.45pm she indicated that she had harmed herself, with a kitchen knife, so officers forced entry.

“Once inside, they found a woman, in possession of a large kitchen knife, which she was asked to put down.

“As she refused, a Taser was used on her and she was then arrested.”

She continued to shout abuse as she was placed in the back of a police van behind the Albert Road home, thought to be her mother’s address.

The teenager was detained initially on suspicion of assault, in relation to the earlier incident, and causing an affray, police have confirmed.

But she was immediately taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital after indicating that she may have taken an overdose, the police spokesman added.

Police are due to question the 19-year-old at Burnley police station tonight after she was released from hospital care.
