A MOTHER-of-three was disgusted when she discovered her kebab was wrapped in cigarette wrapping paper.
Takeaway owner Angela Lee had ordered the seekh kebab from Taste of India, in Copy Nook, Blackburn, and when she unravelled it, she found it had been placed on paper normally used to wrap multi-packs of cigarettes.
The paper appears to be part of a printed roll from cigarette brand John Player and Mrs Lee was left shocked when the kebab was wrapped the coloured side up.
Mrs Lee, of Beaumont Way, Darwen, had bought the £5 kebab before picking up her daughters from a dance school in Blackburn.
She has reported the takeaway to Blackburn with Darwen Trading Standards and has since taken the kebab to them.
Blackburn with Darwen Council has said it is investigating the hygiene of the food as a result of using the paper and issues surrounding the unauthorised use of the John Player trademark.
Mrs Lee said: “I was just shocked when I saw it was wrapped in the paper and I was even more disgusted that it was wrapped coloured side up.”
Mrs Lee who is concerned about food hygiene because she runs a takeaway in Darwen herself, went on: “I am angry because I bought food that I can’t even eat.
“When I was younger I did eat chips wrapped in newspaper but that isn’t allowed any more.
"I have told trading standards about this as this kind of thing shouldn’t be happening.
“I have been to the takeaway before and nothing like this has happened before.”
Chris Allen, head of public protection for Blackburn with Darwen Council, said trading standards were looking into the incident.
He said: “We have received a complaint and are investigating the circumstances.
“Potentially there are two issues to be considered.
“The hygiene implications of using inappropriate packaging materials for food products and secondly the unauthorised use of a registered trademark belonging to the cigarette company.”
No-one from the takeaway was available for comment today.
