A COURSE to help young men with depression is being run at Burnley Football Club after suicides in East Lancashire reached a three-year high.
The ‘It’s a Goal’ project, is being launched at Turf Moor on Monday with the sessions kicking off in September.
The project, which is being run with NHS East Lancashire, is aimed to help men who experienced depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and confidence.
The sessions use football terms and examples to help the men who attend address their problems.
Each person will attend eleven sessions where they can gain skills in motivation, assertiveness, visualisation, relaxation, communication, taking opport-unities and goal setting to help them combat overcome their worries.
Ian Clements, non-executive director at NHS East Lancashire said: “This project uses the world’s most popular sport to help young men aged from 16-34 to deal with their difficulties in a way that is more relevant to them.
“The project is being launched at the same time as Burnley kicks off its Premier League campaign.
"It’s a good sign of hope in difficult times.”
A launch open day is being held on Monday, 12pm until 2.30pm in the James Hargreaves Suite at Turf Moor.
