100-YEAR-old Ivy Walmsley celebrated her birthday in style – despite telling her family she did not want a fuss.

Nieces Mary Taylor and Joan Blades organised a trip for a quiet cup of coffee in Clitheroe Castle’s new cafe Tessen, followed by a party over the weekend.

Ivy, of High Brake Care Home, Clitheroe, was congratulated by the Mayor of Ribble Valley at the new cafe where she was presented with flowers.

She was also was delighted to receive a card from the Queen.

And over the weekend at a party with at least 30 friends and family she was given a photograph of old Clitheroe, plus more flowers and chocolates.

Ivy lived independently until four years ago.

Mrs Taylor, 68, of Clitheroe, said: “Ivy said she didn’t want a fuss but she got one. You only turn 100 once.

“She’s a quiet person who doesn’t want a fuss about anything.

"She was quite shocked and pleasantly surprised!”
