THE rain couldn’t stop 5,000 people enjoying themselves at the annual Accrington Carnival on Saturday.
The procession, which had a theme of ‘your favourite Blockbuster movie’, set out from Eagle Street and made its way through the town, leading revellers to Peel Park.
On the field, a host of activities raising money for Accrington Lions, who organised the day, were available.
They included fashion shows, an It’s a Knockout competition with eight teams, archery, a climbing wall, and displays by army cadets. The Bee Radio was also broadcasting live.
Ray Pullinger, from Accrington Lions, said: “It was a good, successful day even though it was a little bit slow in the morning because of the weather.
“I’d say we had about 5,000 people down throughout the day and the field has been very busy.
“It’s hard to tell at this stage how much has been raised for the Lions, but I think it will be in the region of £4,000 which, considering we’re in a recession, is good.”
