RAMSBOTTOM MP David Chaytor is being investigated by the police over his expenses claims.

Mr Chaytor, who grew up in Summerseat and now lives in Todmorden, was accused of claiming for a mortgage that does not exist.

The Bury North MP had already announced he was to step down at the next election to concentrate on ‘clearing my name’.

He said he would co-operate fully with the investigation once he was invited for an interview.

Mr Chaytor said: "I want to explain my case, explain what happened.

"I've acknowledged that there is an error here and I want to clear my name.”

Scotland Yard is believed to be investigating a small number of MPs for their claims following revelations in the Daily Telegraph.
