A SCHEME to create edible gardens in an East Lancashire town has won £5,000 to spend at a home improvement and garden centre.
Incredible Edible Todmorden beat competition from hundreds of other community groups across the UK to scoop the B&Q voucher.
The group will use the award to construct raised beds in Todmorden and grow vegetables for the local community to enjoy.
It has already successfully turned flower beds around the town into edible gardens and planted a fruit orchard of more than 150 trees.
Work is due to begin at the site in June and will be completed by the end of September.
Volunteers have plans for high quality, architectural and stylish raised beds around the town to highlight the aims of the group.
They will be positioned at Todmorden railway station, the local health centre, leisure centre, fire station and police station.
The voucher has been provided under the B&Q One Planet Living® Awards scheme.
