A PENDLE campaign group has hailed the failure of the BNP in the borough in last week’s elections.

Despite fielding candidates in all six Lancashire County Council divisions, the BNP failed to win a seat in Pendle.

And in the European elections, the party finished fifth overall behind the Tories, Labour, UKIP and the Liberal Democrats.

A spokesman for Pendle United Against Fascism said: “The BNP targeted Pendle in the elections and we know they campaigned hard here.

“However, despite their attempts to present themselves as a respectable party, voters rejected their policies of division and voted for mainstream parties.

“There is no place for the BNP in Pendle where people want to maintain good relationships between all sections of the community.”

BNP leader Nick Griffin, who last week claimed a North West seat in the European Parliament, said people who voted for his party felt let down by mainstream political parties.
