A 23-YEAR-old man has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a mother-of-three following a fail to stop collision in Nelson.
Athif Faiz, of Leeds Road, Nelson admitted causing death by dangerous driving at Burnley Crown Court today.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Tehseen Zaman, 18, also of Leeds Road pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice arising from the same incident.
On Wednesday, February 11, Amanda Bailey, 33, was crossing Leeds Road at 11.55pm, close to the BP garage, when she was hit by a Vauxhall Astra, which was being driven by Faiz, who failed to stop.
Following an investigation the Astra was found to be travelling at excess speed in the moments before the collision.
Amanda suffered serious injuries and was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital where she later died. A post mortem examination revealed she died as a result of multiple injuries.
Detective Inspector Pete Broome, from the Force Major Investigation team, said: “I am delighted with yesterday’s pleas and I hope this will bring some sense of justice to Amanda’s family.
“Faiz’s actions that night led to the death of a young woman who had so much to live for.
"His actions have not only left three young children without a mother, but a mother and father without their much loved daughter.
“This case highlights the stupidity of reckless, break-neck speeding, which played a huge part in this tragic incident.
"The terrible consequences of this collision should serve as a strong warning to people not to do this.”
Faiz and Zaman will be sentenced at Burnley Crown Court on August 10.
