A FORMER vicar is bidding to become Hyndburn MP.

The Rev Kevin Logan, who said he wanted to represent Christian policies, said the MPs’ expenses scandal led to his decision to stand for the Christian People’s Alliance party.

His announcement comes days after the borough’s Labour MP Greg Pope announced he would be stepping down before the next election for family reasons.

Outlining his aims, Mr Logan said he wanted ‘morality and honesty’ in Government, an end to ‘on demand’ abortions and more religious education in schools.

He is also in favour of tax breaks for married couples.

Mr Logan, who writes a weekly column for the Lancashire Telegraph, said: “I’m one of the many frustrated, disenchanted voters who feel robbed of honest democracy.

“Either I sit back and forget about voting after all the built-in scandals and sleaze, or I rise up and do something about it.”

A former town councillor for the old South Ward (Baxenden and Barnfield) before becoming a Church of England minister 34 years ago, he said he wanted to hear from anyone interested in joining a local constituency group.

Mr Logan retired last summer as vicar of Christ Church.
