PLANS to breathe new life into a derelict care home look set to be rubber-stamped after planning officers gave the scheme the thumbs up.
Great Places Housing Group has applied for permission to build 10 three bedroomed houses on the site of the former Wheatley Court.
Two letters of objection from local residents opposing the scheme in Wheatley Close, Fence, have been received by Pendle Council. Concerns have been raised about potential traffic problems, viewing restrictions caused by a proposed six foot fence, and noise from the new residents.
In addition Old Laund Booth Parish Council, which is chaired by Pendle Council leader John David, consider the proposed scheme an “over development” with inadequate car parking.
However Lancashire County Council’s highways officers said parking bays should be placed perpendicular to the aisle between the two rows of bays.
It is anticipated that this will give vehicles sufficient room to manoeuvre and drive out of the area in forward gear.
Pendle Council’s planning officers are now recommending that the proposals, with the parking amendments, are approved by councillors.
Members of Barrowford and Western Parishes Committee will discuss the plans at Thursday’s meeting.
Permission to re-develop the home with five bungalows was granted in March 2007.
