AN EAST Lancashire-based sport nutrition firm has signed a major deal with three of cycling’s top teams.
Science in Sport, based at Brockhall Village in the Ribble Valley and Altham in Hyndburn, have signed deals to supply energy and recovery products to Team Astana, Rabobank and Saxo Bank.
Rabobank is the longest standing ProTour team on the circuit, while Team Astana riders won all the top three tours last year, including the Tour de France.
Peter Slater, who is the marketing manager at Science in Sport, said: “Elite cyclists and Pro-Tour teams have all benefited from the Science in Sport product ran-ge for years.
“It is testament to our philosophy and product range that we continue to receive requests from professional riders and the team staff for nutritional support – and we now have formal agreements with three of the top UCI tour teams.
“Working with riders from Team Astana, Rabobank and Saxo Bank will help us continue to develop our range of energy, recovery and hydration products.”
Science in Sport produce a range of energy, hydration and recovery products in the form of drinks, gels and bars.
Its range of GO energy products were one of the first the company produced, and its REGO re-energising fuel has been a best-seller since its launch in 1995, when it was inspired by British cyclist Chris Boardman.
Science in Sport is already official nutrition partners to the Great Britain Cycling and Sailing teams, and played a key role in the British cycling success at last year’s Beijing Olympics.
Johan Bruyneel, eight-time winning sports director of the Tour de France and general manager for Team Astana, said: “Without proper energy, even the world’s best rider will perform at sub-par levels.
“Nutrition is often overlooked and that is the main reason we partnered with SiS.
“They understand the nutritional needs of professional cyclists and have developed energy and recovery products that address the dietary requirements of our riders.”
