WORKMEN are starting on an ‘alley gating’ scheme in the Sudellside area of Darwen.
Gates will be installed to block off alleys behind Sandon Street and Perry Street, and will only be accessible to residents with a key.
The aim is to stop yobs congregating and and fly-tippers dumping material.
Coun Roy Davies has been campaigning for years to get the project under way.
He said: “I think it’s brilliant we are one of the first areas in the borough to get the alleygates.
“This will improve security for people. Children will be able to play safely, people will be able to hang their washing out at the back, and hopefully a sense of community will grow.
“I want people to grasp it with both hands.”
