A MAN says he may have to sell his house after being made unemployed for the first time in his 33-year working life.
Clint Walmsley, 49, who once worked for Fraser Eagle in Padiham, said he has had “almost no interest” since he began applying for work after losing his job as a courier last month.
And he slammed the benefits system, saying that someone who has paid taxes and national insurance for as long as he has should be better supported in hard times.
Mr Walmsley was working for Business Post, the delivery company, until recently. Before that he has worked constantly since he was 16 as a coach driver for Fraser Eagle and a delivery driver for a firm in Darwen.
He said: “I still have a lot to offer. I am not asking for a hand-out for the rest of my life, but I am finding it very difficult to get any benefits.
Mr Walmsley, of England Avenue, Blackburn, supports his wife, Karen, who earns a limited wage in a telesales job.
He has two sons, Carl 25, and Joseph, 17, who lives with the couple.
