Burnley MP Kitty Ussher has called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
In a letter to the Foreign Secretary David Miliband, she also called for the establishment of a Palestinian state peacefully co-existing with Israel.
Kitty Ussher said: “I would like to state absolutely that I believe there should be an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
"I believe that violence on all sides must end immediately and that all sides should look towards a final settlement that establishes a state of Palestine co-existing in peace with Israel.”
“I welcome the UK Government’s commitment and unambiguous calls for a ceasefire and the lead we have taken in securing a UN Security Council Resolution calling for a ceasefire.
"I support the British Government’s calls for Israel to abide by its humanitarian obligations under international law.”
“I have taken up the matter urgently with the Foreign Secretary and called on him to use UK influence to help bring peace in the region.
"I have also welcomed the £10m in aid to Gaza but I want to ensure that the UK pushes to undertake that when a ceasefire happens it addresses the economic blockade of Gaza because without an economy there is little hope for a lasting peace.”
“I am sure everyone will join with me in calling for a swift end to the violence and hoping that no further innocent people are killed or injured.”
