VOLUNTEERS are needed to re-establish a youth group in Hoddlesden.

A youth group existed in the village until six months ago when a lack of adult supervision forced its closure.

Now community workers are hoping to get the club re-running for bored youngsters.

A meeting is scheduled for January 6 when interested parties can learn more about the proposals.

Organiser of the meeting, Bert Clarke, said: “At the moment we are specifically looking at parents of youngsters in the area to come together.

“What kind of provision we can offer all depends on who comes forward.

“The youth group is missed, there is no doubt about it.”

Coun Julie Slater, who represents East Rural ward, said: “The village really needs it. There’s nothing for the children to do.

“It’s been closed for about six months now and we’re initially looking at two age groups – children and then older ones from about 12 to 16.”

Anybody interested in the project or in attending the meeting is asked to contact Coun Slater on 07798 742030.
