A WOMAN from the Ribble Valley said she had changed her outlook on life after returning from the ‘trip of a lifetime’.
Roz Thompson, 48, of Mellor, went to Tanzania in Africa, to help feed and educate malnourished children.
The department sales manager, was chosen by her workplace, TNT express delivery company, based in Ramsbottom, for hitting a ‘high sales target’.
Roz flew out to Kilimanjaro with eleven other colleagues from across the UK, as TNT were supporting the United Nations’ World Food Programme, which helps feed and educate children and orphans.
And during her time at the school, Roz, who is originally from Essex, planted trees and crops to help provide for a ‘decent harvest’ and local food supply.
But one of her ‘highlights’ of the five-day trip, was a visit to the Kinyamwenda Primary School in the Singida District.
She said: “It was very humbling, especially after spending time with young orphans and children who survived on just one bowl of rice and maize a day.
“I felt privileged to have spent time with some remarkable children.
"They have so little in life and yet they never seemed to stop smiling. They melted our hearts.”
But the mum of one said that the trip was ’very touching’ and it has definitely ‘opened her eyes’.
She added: “It makes you realise how fortunate we are with what we have in the UK.
"It has changed my outlook on life.”
