BURGLARS have stolen a family’s Christmas presents.

Lisa and husband Neil Clough said the festive period had been ruined after they saved up for months to buy their three children presents.

But burglars broke in as they slept on Friday night and stole the lot.

Mrs Clough, 26, of Chapman Road, Hoddlesden, said: “It’s heartbreaking.

“The kids know some presents were taken but we told them not to worry, Father Christmas hasn’t been yet.

“I think it is disgusting, I’m really surprised that something like this has happened in Hoddlesden.

“I have to replace them. I don’t want to disappoint them on Christmas morning.”

Police said a total of £1,500 worth of items were taken including an XBox 360 which has a blue front, GHD hair straighteners and a digital camera which had pictures of baby Leah’s birth between midnight and 7am on Saturday.

They said the burglars may have entered the property via an unlocked door and are urging people to ensure doors and windows are locked when properties are left empty.

Mrs Clough, who is on maternity leave from the BT telephone exchange in Blackburn, said the burglars had added to the year of bad luck after her husband, a self-employed tradesman, has been struggling for work.

She said: “I’m in shock and I’m fuming. They have ruined Christmas.

“They are sick. People work hard for things. I am thankful our family can help us financially but some people don’t have that privilege.”

Det Sgt Ian Geogarty, from Darwen CID, said: “This was a very upsetting for the occupants and I would urge anybody with information to contact police.”

Anyone with information should contact Darwen CID on 01254 353841 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
