A 96-YEAR-OLD man is in a critical condition after the car he was driving crashed, police said.
The man, from Darwen, was in a gold Citroen Saxo when it collided with a black Vauxhall Corsa at the traffic light junction leading from Bolton Road to the Nova Scotia Retail Park, Blackburn.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, near the B&Q DIY store, at 1.20pm on Saturday.
The 96-year-old was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital.
Medics described his condition as “critical”. The driver of the Corsa was later treated at hospital for minor injuries.
Officers arrived at the scene moments after the incident, but are urging anyone who saw what happened – or saw the elderly man driving in town before the collision – to get in touch.
PC John Wharton said: “I appeal to anyone who saw what happened or who saw the Citroen Saxo driving near to Blackburn town centre shortly before the collision to come forward.”
Contact police on 0845 1 25 35 45.
