A BURNLEY barber is offering a selection of Clarets cuts in honour of the team’s Carling Cup giant-killing run.

Staff at Jazzman Grooves, which has shops in Bull Street and Burnley Road, have overhauled their list of specials to include several new styles, based on those sported by some of Burnley’s star players — and even their manager.

The new list has replaced one which included Premier League stars such as Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney.

Baron Laird, owner, said it is proving a big hit with local youngsters. He added: “We have star footballers on the list all year round, but we decided to put the Burnley players up there because of their Carling Cup run.

"It’s just a bit of fun and goes down well with kids.

“We usually only have one Burnley player on the list, but now there’s seven.

"We’re telling people to forget Ronaldo and get a Paterson instead.”

The list includes, Martin Paterson, Chris Eagles, Chris McCann, Robbie Blake, Kevin McDonald, Brian Jensen as well as 42-year-old manager Owen Coyle.

Baron, 38, who opened his first shop 20 years ago, said forward Paterson’s cut is proving most popular with young fans, but there have not been too many requests for the a carbon copy of Coyle’s close crop.

He added: “You can tell Paterson is trying to grow it a bit like Ronaldo’s, with it short at the side and a bit of a mullet, but he’s not quite there yet.

“A few kids ask for a Chris Eagles, but their mums and dads say no because it’s quite long and will take time to grow.

“Paterson’s and Jensen’s are pretty much bog standard, but McCann’s can be more challenging.

“The more they score or the better they play, the more popular their haircuts become.”

Lifelong Clarets fan Baron said a number of the Burnley youth team visit him for a haircut as well as McCann.

And he is ‘excited’ about the prospect of a Carling Cup semi-final.

He said: “Myself and Adam Donay, who works in the shop, are both big fans.

"It’s all about getting behind the team and getting to Wembley.”
