A Darwen fundraiser has been made an honorary fellow of Cancer Research UK.
Marion Walsh, from the charity’s Darwen local committee, picked up the award at a conference in Liverpool hosted by Cancer Research UK fundraising staff and researchers.
An audience at the Roy Castle Centre in Liverpool heard how she has shown exceptional dedication to Cancer Research UK, holding the role of Secretary on the committee for most of her 40 years service.
The Cancer Research UK Darwen Local Committee has raised almost £400,000 since their formation.
Marion said: “I am delighted to receive the award although don’t feel as though I have done anything special.
“I have been dedicated to the committee and continue to work hard to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK.
Helen Kitchen, Cancer Research UK Area Volunteer Manager for Darwen, said: “Individuals such as Marion Walsh are the lifeblood of Cancer Research UK.
“We salute our supporters everywhere and together we will beat cancer.”
